Storm Closes McKenzie County Roads

Posted: Updated:
McKenzie County is dealing with more than just storm damage this morning.

All the gravel roads in the county are closed to truck traffic. Emergency Manager Jerry Samuelson says as of 8:30 a.m. all semi's with gross weight over 12,000 pounds are prohibited from driving on unpaved roads.

"As soon as we repair the roads we get a little rain. We have a lot of heavy oil field traffic and so it's a vicious cycle, we fix our roads, they get damaged and on top of our tornado last night we are dealing with road closures this morning," says McKenzie County Emergency Manager Jerry Samuelson.

There are 1,200 miles of road in McKenzie County, only 400 miles of paved roads remain open to truck traffic today. Mckenzie County received between three and five inches of rain during last nights thunderstorms.
