Parents Speak Out About Missing Kids Day

Posted: Updated:
It's a parents worst nightmare, and today marks the day dedicated to reminding the nation of the thousands of children who are reported missing each year.

The Bismarck Police Department says it's important for parents to know that many crimes against children are preventable and urges parents to talk to their kids about safety. One family in Mandan knows all too well how real the problem is right here in North Dakota. The Scott's say their daughter was approached and asked to get in a car by a stranger on her way to the bus stop. Thankfully, the elementary aged girl was taught how to respond and declined. She then told her parents about the encounter who informed local schools and parents.
"It's scary to know that this is happening around here but I think it's very important information to have and to know how this is happening and how children and women are being targeted," says parent, Callia Scott.

"And it does happen here, it happened to our daughter and the fact that it does happen," says parent, Cameron Scott.
Since the incident the Scotts have invited local speakers to teach groups in the community about human trafficking.
