Bartender Returns Home After Competition

Posted: Updated:
The first American and the first woman to win the BOLS Around the World Bartending Championship is back home in Bismarck.

Kate Gerwin beat out 18 other bartenders from around the world.

She says the entire experience was rewarding, and the camaraderie among the competitors was what she valued most.

She also says she's proud to represent the talent coming from small cities.

"I'm more proud that a small town is representing. even in the U.S. event though we've never taken the title it's usually New York City, Chicago, all of these places. I think a lot of people underestimate smaller towns in having talent. It's kind of nice to be like no, no we can do cool things too," says Gerwin.

Gerwin is the general manager at Humpback Sally's, and her winning drink will be on the menu in a few weeks.
