Family Focus: Let Kids Be Kids

Posted: Updated:
Different parents often means different ways of parenting. Some, choose to wipe their child down right after they touch something. Others aren't as worried.

But, there's some interesting information you may want to hear. New studies say exposing your newborn to germs could prevent them from allergies and asthma as they grow up. We're not talking about putting your child in dirty situations, just letting them be a kid.

"More involvement, more play time outside. In addition to contributing to lessening the obesity epidemic going on, but also exposing them to just more natural substances, like more dirt and more bacteria," says Dr. Sean Stanga of Trinity Allergy and Immunology.

Even though there is good evidence on this through studies, there's still a lot of speculation on this topic. Stanga says that more outside play does contribute to a healthier development of the immune system.
