First Look At The New St. Josephs Hospital

Posted: Updated:
As Dickinson grows, St. Joseph's Hospital is no longer in the most convenient location or very conducive to efficient patient care. But the hospital's board and staff are hoping that will change when they move into their new space.

It's the same square footage as the old hospital, but it's the layout that makes all the difference in the new St. Joseph's. The floor plan will make it easier for staff to work together, and give patients the best care possible.

It looks a lot bigger than the old St. Joseph's Hospital, but the new hospital has better space planning.

"The new facility allows for more efficient use of space and time and more opportunities for teamwork," says St. Joseph's Hospital President Reed Reyman.

With plenty of windows and room for top-of-the-line medical equipment, this new hospital was built for the patients.

"All of the patient flows, all of the rooms, everything that we've designed is with the patient first in mind," says Reyman.

The $98 million building includes a clinic and a hospital portion.

Right now, the hospital has only one entrance for all of its units. This new building will have separate areas to improve patient experience.

"We're able to use the square footage more efficiently for other point of service care that happens on a daily basis," says Reyman.

And another benefit of the project is most of the work is from businesses in the area.

"It was really important to St. Joseph's to push hard for local participation from subcontractors and suppliers in the North Dakota area. 47 percent of the project is completed by local contractors, which just pours the dollars back into the community," says operations coordinator Marc Mellmer.

A community that keeps building everyday.

The new building is on track to open in November.
