Fargo Students Present At Petroleum Conference

Posted: Updated:

It's not just the current big names in oil at the Williston Basin Petroleum Conference. Future generations of industry leaders made presentations today at the Bismarck Civic Center.

Sixteen West Fargo eighth graders showed off STEM team projects to industry executives. The engineering design projects all focused on finding solutions to real world problems in the oil industry

"The beauty of this is that I won't ever be that teacher where kids look me in the eye and say, 'When are we ever going to use this? Because they're using it today and that's the end all. It is a win-win situation for all educators," says Cheney Middle School science teacher Candida Braun.

"The boomers and the millenials are really engaged right now, but these guys are going to come and they're going to be the ones to take the Bakken,  through next 20 years into the future," says Lynn Helms of the Department of Mineral Resources.

The students presented to Lynn Helms and other industry leaders.
