Williston Fire Department Welcomes New Chief

Posted: Updated:

The new chief of the Williston Fire Department started on Monday. He comes from Trinidad, Colo. where he was the head of a volunteer firefighting department.

The full time and volunteer firefighters received some good news over the weekend. The news was that the new chief was in town and would start on Monday.

“So far so good,.” says chief Jason Catrambone. “Everybody's friendly, everybody's willing and ready to serve the community so it's nice to see.”

Catrambone has been a chief since 2004, and has experience in building departments.

“The opportunity is immense. Most departments around the country right now are getting smaller. This one has to grow with the city. And we have to see where we can go with it," says Catrambone.

“We have an awesome chief,” says Interim Captain Josh Butler. “Great all around. Everything goes on and the morale and everything is up. It's going to be good in the future.”

Before the chief came, the department had to deal with a couple fires with everybody working together. Now, that he is here, everybody can go back to their normal roles.

“I think we're going to grow,” says Butler. “I having a good feeling about it. It's going to really benefit the public. The services we are going to be to provide for people. The training that we'll be getting is going to benefit the city greatly.”

One of the city's requirements before hiring the new chief, was being able to expand the department. Catrambone says the next step is to build a plan and go from there.

Catrambone added the volunteers are going to play a big role and any of the future plans of the department.
