Air Museum Hosts Armed Forces Day

Posted: Updated:
With the Air Force Base and the National Guard just down the road, there's a strong military culture in Minot. That history will be celebrated tomorrow during Armed Forces Day at the Dakota Territory Air Museum.

Armed Forces Day is celebrated annually on the third Saturday in May. At the Air Museum in Minot, planes, uniforms and memorabilia will be on display.

From World War One to Vietnam, the hangers are full historic items with ties to North Dakota, and soon they'll have a display commemorating Minot Air Force Base's 5th Interceptor Squadron.

“We are getting three airplanes, the F106, the F15 and the T33, that they used as a trainer aircraft out at the base. When we get those three together we're going to put together a fifth fighter display outdoors. It's going to commemorate or give recognition to the fifth fighter that was here for so many years in the late '50s, through the '60s and '70s, and into the '80s,” says Don Larson of the Dakota Territory Air Museum.

The Dakota Territory Air Museum is open Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays.
