Bounce House Business Takes Accident Precautions

Posted: Updated:

After an inflatable bounce house in New York went airborne with two children inside on Monday, the safety of the play structures is being heavily debated.

The bounce house that was lifted by strong winds was not one provided by a commercial rental company and despite the negative publicity, a local business owner says it hasn't affected his rentals.

Don Braunagel of Fun on the Run Inflatables, says the Little Tikes bounce house in New York only had six-inch stakes holding it into the ground. His company uses 42-inch stakes.

He also says all of his employees go through safety training and know when unsafe conditions arise.

"The people that we've done business with in the past understand the safety tests that we take and there are times where we've had to simply shut down the event or not do the event because of weather. Weather is everything. You kind of go by weather, it is the boss," says Braunagel.

Braunagel says inflatable structures should be taken down if wind speeds are more than 15 miles per hour.
