Senators Meet with Task Force 21 about ICBMs

Posted: Updated:

North Dakota's two U.S. Senators were at the Pentagon today, meeting with members of a task force dedicated to Minot Air Force Base.

The senators discussed with the task force issues that Minot Air Force Base faces, including competitive civilian pay, and resources for service workers.

"I think it's once again to reiterate the critical role that the airmen and the community of Minot play in our national defense, especially as it relates to the ICBMs," said Senator Heidi Heitkamp. "We have won at least a couple battles in making sure that people understand how critically important those facilities are to our deterrents," Heitkamp added.

In a statement Senator John Hoeven said: "We are going to keep working in Washington to ensure that our airmen have the resources and support they need to carry out their missions, which are of vital importance to our national security and maintaining a credible nuclear deterrent."

Both Hoeven and Heitkamp are members of the Senate's ICBM coalition.
