Group Focuses On Missouri River Issues

Posted: Updated:
A grassroots group formed to focus on issues in the Missouri River watershed in North Dakota.

The Missouri River Stakeholder group will be doing outreach programs for local government and others stakeholders.

The first is a fall workshop to increase awareness and support for the group. The second is a conference that will be held next spring to formalize the organizational structure and its leadership.

"There's interest in the federal government on how they want to use and regulate the river so the authorized uses of the Missouri don't always fit with North Dakota's needs. Then there's in state issues on how we want to use the river in state," says senior adviser Lance Yohe.

The outreach is looking to target everyone affected by the river, and there are many issues they want to touch on including flooding and water distribution.
