Miss North Dakota High Speaks About Bullying

Posted: Updated:
Taunting, teasing, rough housing, whatever kinder title it's given, it's bullying. Although October is National Anti-Bullying Month, Miss North Dakota High School is trying to stop bullies every day by speaking anywhere kids are, like elementary schools and the Big Brother Big Sister organization. This morning, she spoke to fifth graders at Jeanette Myhre Elementary about her platform of Anti-Bullying.

I asked them all, aren't you sick of hearing the anti-bully message? They told me, no because the message against bullies will become old when bullying finally does.

Jeanette Myhre fifth graders are listening to Miss North Dakota High Christina Lahren, a junior at Century High School. And her platform, handed down with her crown, is anti-bullying. Something that's been talked about over and over again.

"To this day I get picked on for being in pageants because everyone thinks it's a prissy thing to do. I still get teased, but I just have to remember that I'm doing wonderful things for my community with this," says Lahren.

Lahren told students that even in her younger years she was bullied. Unfortunately, some students could relate to her. Stevie Berger, a fifth grader student, says she'd like her own bully scenarios to turn out like Lahren's.

"She was really cool. I like her example of how she explained how she had everything grouped up, and she was actually against the bully. And how they all apologized to each other," says Berger.

Fifth-grader Linnette Miner says it's important that Lahren spread her message of anti-bullying, because sometimes standing up to a bully is hard but important.

"I just think of them as small, and I'm big, and I can overcome them, but be strong," says Miner.

All of the ladies agreed violence wasn't the answer, simply tell an adult or a friend and try to work out the issue together.

Lahren will be competing for the national Miss High School title in Florida this summer. She says she's excited to take the anti-bullying message across the nation.
