Dive Team Joins Forces with Rural Fire Department

Posted: Updated:

They've been called to duty quite a bit lately, pulling a truck out of the Missouri River. Now, the Burleigh County Dive and Rescue Team is joining forces with the Bismarck Rural Fire Department.

Many of the of the scenarios the dive team worked on involved the rural fire department. The combination will bring all rescue disciplines under one team, resulting in a better trained team in rescue efforts.

"I think it's actually long overdue. It's never really been talked about, but when it was brought forward to our attention, everybody was for sure on board. And we're already working with these guys on a daily basis, not necessarily on water rescue, but just the way the fire department and law enforcement work together anyway," says assistant team leader Scott Sommers

The new team will also reduce costs to taxpayers by eliminating duplication of resources.
