Health Department Reports Another Hepatitis C Case

Posted: Updated:
The health department confirms an additional case of hepatitis C related to the outbreak in Ward County. The case count is now at 45.

Hepatitis C is a virus that affects the liver of infected people. It's transmitted through blood to blood contact. Many people don't show symptoms and can go undiagnosed for years. That's why the health department is encouraging people to get tested.

"This is not a new thing. We are just trying to bring people back around. And those that need to come in for this outbreak will be receiving letters from the health department," says State Epidemiologist Tracy Miller.

Preliminary findings confirmed all cases are current or former residents of ManorCare in Minot. Most of those infected with the outbreak strain of hepatitis C received phlebotomy, podiatry or toenail care services.
