Shiloh Christian Vision Campaign

Posted: Updated:
Tigerlilly recently performed for more than 350 people who support building a larger stage for area artists.

"We are at capacity in our theater for most of our performances and concerts and we just need a new space to perform," says Shiloh Christian School Choral Director, Erin Weichel.

Right now, Shiloh Christian musicians, actors and entertainers don't have a lot of space to work with. So, a 6.5 million dollar arts center is on the drawing board.

"We've been doing a lot at the school with productions and musicals and really growing that program and just like everywhere else in town we are out of room, we are kind of bustin' at the seams so to speak and so this will really give our students the opportunity to continue to grow," says grade school art teacher, Becky Strutz.

The "Arts on Main" fundraiser brought in more than 30 thousand dollars, and around two million dollars has already been pledged for the cause. Mark Peterson volunteered to be part of a magic act at this event. He's also a major donor has had children and grandchildren attend Shiloh and is personally invested in making a new facility named after his late wife happen.

"Well, my wife passed away a few years ago and she was always very interest in performing arts and was very musical and everything, and it was always a passion of hers to have a performing arts center," says main contributor, Mark Peterson.

Everybody needs their own space and so do the performing arts students at Shiloh Christian school.

"We can't leave our sets up during the day. We have to tear down every night and put it back up so it gets a little busy and it'll be really nice to have a place where we can just leave it up and just come and go as we please," says Junior at Shiloh Christian School, Tori Schindler.

The center will seat 700 with a multi-purpose auditorium, a three thousand-square foot theater stage and a music wing.

"As a parent I look forward to this just because my son also plays football and is involved in the arts and just the pride and the excitement that they have being able to participate in those things and have ownership and feel like they have a place to call home," says Becky Strutz.

The new center won't just accommodate Shiloh Christian School students.

"We want to share it with the whole community much like the athletic complex has been shared with different organizations around town," says Weichel. "We want to be a place that small arts groups or new performing arts groups have a chance to have a home."

Supporters of the new art center can't break ground on the new facility until half of the money has been raised. They hope to have three million dollars pledged by the next school year so they can start construction.
