Amtrak President and CEO Visits Minot Train Station

Posted: Updated:
In celebration of National Train Day, Amtrak President and CEO Joe Boardman made an appearance at Minot's Amtrak station.

Boardman joined members of North Dakota's congressional delegation in talking about the importance of the rail industry in North Dakota, not only for moving people around, but also for continuing the state's economic growth.

"People are coming to North Dakota for opportunity. They're coming from all over to get jobs here. Good jobs. We're leading the nation in job growth and in economic growth. And that's a testament to the great people that we have in this great state, "said Senator John Hoeven. "But we need infrastructure to go with that cause we gotta work hard to maintain our quality of life," Hoeven added.

"We provide that connectivity and we can provide that connectivity for whether it's a bus system which has been reduced in the rural areas of this nation, or even aviation, which is also being reduced," said Boardman. "We don't want to reduce service on Amtrak. We want to grow it," Boardman added.

Amtrak currently operates in 46 states.

For people traveling to the Twin Cities, they've added a new stop in St. Paul.
