Scranton Community Shows Support For Perkin's Performances

Posted: Updated:

Kat Perkins hangs her hat in Minneapolis these days, but she still sticks to her roots.

J.R. Havens had a chance to travel to Kat's home town of Scranton Tuesday night, where they held a viewing party at a local watering hole.

The tiny town, just under 300 people, made a lot of noise both physically and on social media.

Similar scenes like this have taken over Tuesday nights in tiny Scranton for the past few months.

It's all because one of their own Kat Perkins is capturing the attention of music fans everywhere with her consistent performances on "The VOICE!"

"What an amazing ride Kat has put us all on. We've enjoyed every minute of it, and I don't know how you can't with her electrifying energy. It's been amazing we're with you all the way Kat," says Sarah Dschaak.

Each week residents wear their Kat T-shirts, post their homemade signs and for the past few weeks pray their home town hero will advance even further on the show.

"The support's been amazing. I mean we love her. We love her family, they're amazing, and we hope she goes all the way," says Shelly Truetken.

"Kat Perkins! Team Adam moves on!

The last two weeks Perkins has depended not only on her voice, but social media to help her move on.

"This has been wild for the whole town, the whole community and the whole state. When you see what's happening with everybody tweeting," says Jim Sabe.

"We've been talking about it, and I said I think we raised the Twitter consciousness of North Dakota. It really shows the network of followers that she has, and the people haven't forgotten where she comes from, and she hasn't either. It's been great, we've been training people, and it's been going on all over so we love it," says Mark Perkins, Kat's father.

Mark says no mater what happens now, her career is pretty much set.

"Sometimes winning isn't always what it's all about. Just getting that exposure, and getting someone to notice you that might fill a void they have so yeah, I think she's well on her way," says Mark.

And it looks like the folks of Scranton will be with her every step of the way.

The Main Bar staff says it will have viewing parties every time Kat is on the show.
