Ward County Jail Implements New Program

Posted: Updated:

The Ward County Jail has a growing problem, and now they're trying to find ways to alleviate it.

They're implementing the Good Time Program which means if an inmate has good behavior they could receive five days off their sentence in a month. This program will only be offered to nonviolent offenders.

"It's just an option that can be rescinded at any time. But, it's just a program that we are going to try to see if we can still have people do their time in corrections but be released upon good behavior,” says Sheriff Steve Kukowski of the Ward County Sheriff’s Department.

To be a part of this program, their sentence has to be longer than 31 days. Currently, the jail is housing 120 inmates with only 104 beds.
