Dickinson Schools Brace For More Kindergarten Students

Posted: Updated:
Dickinson School administrators have a better idea of how many students will be in kindergarten in the fall, but they say they're bracing for even more to move in over the summer.

Jefferson Elementary hosted an open house yesterday for incoming students and parents. Three-hundred students have pre-registered for kindergarten district-wide. Superintendent Douglas Sullivan says the district might hire another kindergarten teacher if even more students enroll.

"It was very important for me just to see any changes that have happened since my first was in kindergarten. It's been a few years now, and a lot can change in just a matter of a couple of years," says Jefferson Elementary parent Marya Skaare.

"There's a lot of transition. I know all of our classes have experienced both coming and going with students, and we are seeing a growth in all of the public school system," says Chelsey Scherr.

Last year, 24 additional kindergarteners enrolled during the summer.
