Program Teaches Students Financial Literacy

Posted: Updated:
Financial literacy isn't something anyone can jump into feet first without learning how to save and what are good spending habits are.

The Junior Achievement Program is teaching local eighth graders those habits and more. This morning students at Simle Middle School had their last day of financial training with a Starion Banker. They had interactive conversations about loans, interest fees and smart ways to save.

"I think a lot of times they're maybe left to decide on their own what they should do with the money that they earn. And a lot of times it's spent possibly. We're trying to instill that there's a lot of different things that they can do with that money," says Scott McPherson a teacher at Simle.

Since this is the last sessions for Simle, each student will receive a certificate of completion that doubles as a voucher of financial knowledge if they'd like to work at Starion in the future.
