Walk a Mile in Her Shoes Event

Posted: Updated:
The saying goes,"You never know what someone's life is like until you walk a mile in their shoes." That was the lesson being shared in Minot this morning.

In honor of April being Sexual Assault Awareness Month, the Domestic Violence Crisis Center hosted the 6th annual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event. It was a light-hearted event with a very serious message. Men from the Minot community came out to put on a pair of high heels and take a few laps around the Dakota Square Mall.
"More than anything I'd like them to walk away with the understanding of standing up against sexual violence and protecting the females in their immediate families, their friends, and their community," says walk coordinator, Kari Heringer. "If all the guys step up against this the problem would decrease. I think by having men on our side, and the community on our side, it can only help."

Anyone who's struggling with a sexual assault or domestic violence situation, is urged to contact the Domestic Violence Crisis Center at 701-857-2200.
