Businesses Receive Social Media Training

Posted: Updated:
With new social media outlets coming out every day, businesses need to keep their online presence fresh.

There's sometimes a misconception that social media is for young people, and that's one of the reasons why Scott Wild teaches business owners of all ages how to take full advantage of it.

"Social media is not Facebook and Twitter, it's what happens on Facebook and Twitter, it's the conversations," says Scott Wild the owner of Wild Inspire, an internet marketing and social media training company.

Wild visited the Strom Center in Dickinson to show businesses how to maximize their online and social media presence.

"Facebook may be gone in 5 to 10 years, we don't know," Wild says. "So we focus on finding your audience, finding out what matters to them, creating content that they care about, and then putting it out on whatever tools you happen to be using."

Those lessons drew businesses of all sizes, from large corporations, to mom-and-pop shops, to the executive director of an assisted-living home.

"It's not the elderly people that are looking at us, it's the younger people that are looking at us for their mothers and for their fathers," says Douglas Walker, executive director of Hawks Point assisted living in Dickinson. "That's why we need to get it out on as many forms of media as we can to bring people to Hawks Point."

Seminar attendees say they plan to put Wild's teachings to use right away.

"I learned that traditional advertising is really about showing and presenting yourself, whereas social media is more about interacting, and that really appeals to me, because if you're not listening to your audience, you're not hearing them, how can you really present who you are or what your product is?" says therapist, yoga teacher, and representative for Young Living Essential Oils Cheryl Planert.

Wild says he does these types of seminars once or twice a month. To learn more about his training and consulting visit www.wildinspire.com.
