The Story Of Books On Broadway

Posted: Updated:

Books on Broadway has been a staple of Williston for a long time. They have a lot of books with different kinds of stories for people to read. Like those books, there is a story behind the store.

When you look at the store Books on Broadway from across the street. It looks like any normal bookstore, but when you go in there you see something different.

"My late wife and I, always had been collects, and we just wanted a fun place," says Chuck Wilder the owner of Books on Broadway. "And an interesting place and that's why we decorated the way we did."

Wilder's wife Robin started the store back in 1993. Robin was the one running the store for a long time because Chuck was the states attorney for Williams County.

"I got more involved in the store more the last year of her life," says Wilder. "Although, when we started the store, I was busy working in the back and working after hours here. It was fun."

Robin passed away in 2000, and ever since then he has tried to expand the facility. About four years ago, he put in a coffee shop to bring other customers to the store.

"I just felt comfortable in here," says Austin Fry. "I walked in, and the lady at the counter was very nice. Just a cozy little store."

Austin Fry is a first time customer at Books on Broadway. He has seen the store while walking and decided to come in. Like Fry, people come in and go to the coffee shop where they have specialty drinks like the mocha, which is made the same way Chuck's mom used to when he was a kid.

"I enjoy the people, and I enjoy making different sorts of coffees," says Nancy Norvell. "From caramel macchiatos to mochas to specialty coffees."

The bookstore barista for Books on Broadway Nancy Norvell has been working for Chuck for almost a year. When she first came into the store she said the things that first caught her eye were the balloons and Chuck, because of his kind personality.

Chuck says that a lot of things in the store have a story behind them, such as his double horn euphonium, which is a very rare instrument.
