Public Service Commission Encourages Calling Before Digging

Posted: Updated:

With all the construction underway in North Dakota, knowing exactly what might be underground has become much more difficult.

April is Call Before You Dig month, which encourages contractors and homeowners to call 811 two days before starting any project that involves digging. From large scale projects such as building a home to planting a new tree, it's important to have your land inspected.

"If it's a pipeline or a telephone line that could be the lifeline for someone who has to call medical services. It's not just Western North Dakota, it's Eastern North Dakota, it's the entire state. And the big thing is it costs a lot of money," says Brian Kalk of the Public Service Commission.

The 811 one call program, which is part of the Call Before You Dig initiative, has received more than one million calls each year from North Dakota. For more information on the program visit ndonecall.com.
