State Archery Tournament Held in Bismarck

Posted: Updated:

More than 500 students from 20 different schools across North Dakota competed today in the annual Archery State Tournament.

Held at the VFW Sports Arena in Bismarck, the National Archery in the Schools Program allows students fourth through twelfth grade to learn archery as part of their physical education curriculum.

Students could either compete within teams of 12 to 24 members or individually. And organizers say archery is a great sport because anyone can do it.

"This program is all about target archery and all about getting kids engaged in a sport that every kid can do the may not be able to slam dunk a ball or hit a home run but they can come out here and shoot and do it very well.," says Education Coordinator, Jeff Long.

The top five performers have the chance to travel to Kentucky for the national tournament.
