Officials Respond To Chemical Exposure

Posted: Updated:

The city of Tioga has shut off the water supply to an apartment complex because of a concern about poisoning.

The North Dakota Department of Health says that someone poured chemicals, which may have included antifreeze, diesel and gasoline, in an attempt to thaw out the building's water lines.

The city has informed the 20 people living in the Tioga Townhomes that they may have been exposed to the chemicals and are recommending that they be tested at the Tioga Medical Center for possible poisoning.

"That testing consists of having blood drawn and that we would rather err on the side of caution again we don't know if anyone actually ingested any chemical but we would rather be cautious because of the potential consequences because the ingestion of this could be serious if a sufficient quantity was ingested," says Tim Weidrich of the health department.

The department says the rest of Tioga's water supply is safe.
