Crisis Center Opens New Safe House

Posted: Updated:

The Domestic Violence Crisis Center (DVCC) in Minot has been providing emergency shelter to victims since 1981, and now they have even more room to address a growing need in the community.

Thursday afternoon, DVCC staff unveiled a new 10 bedroom safe house and emergency shelter. The facility has the capacity to house 60 women and children trying to over-come domestic violence and sexual assault. The new shelter is a huge improvement from their previous 4 bedroom facility.

"Unfortunately, victims are told nobody wants to help them, and that is far from the truth. There are a lot of people out there that care about victims, and we don't want abuse happening in our community. Basically, we don't want to tolerate that kind of behavior. I think this shelter only proves this community is backing victims," says Dena Filler the executive director for the DVCC.

The DVCC is funded largely by grants and donations. To show your support, check out their Walk A Mile In Her Shoes fundraiser Saturday April 26 at Dakota Square Mall.
