Early Voting for $39.5 Million Dollar School Bond

Posted: Updated:

While Minot Public Schools' Bond Vote is still a week away, early voting has opened for those people who can't turn out next Tuesday.

After a $125 Million Dollar Bond vote failed to pass in December, School Officials came up with a new scaled down version that would address over-crowding at the middle school level.  The $39.5 Million Dollar project includes the construction of a new 550 student elementary school in Southeast Minot, classroom additions and renovations at Perkett and Edison, and district-wide security upgrades.

"We need a 60 percent vote on this bond issue for passage.  We want everybody that goes to the poles to have an educated vote to understand what their needs are in the district and where things are at.  The early voting makes it really nice for people who maybe can't be available on election day to vote or its just easier to get away from work and stop at the courthouse and vote," said Minot Public Schools Superintendent Mark Vollmer.  Early voting is being held at the Ward County Court House.  Residents need to remember to bring a photo ID.  The Bond Issue needs a 60 percent or greater majority to pass.

Early voting continues tomorrow and Thursday 11AM to 6PM.  Next Tuesday's Bond Vote takes place at the Minot Auditorium from 7AM to 7PM, open to all residents who live in the Minot Public School District.
