New Look Majettes Ready for Challenge

Posted: Updated:

Twenty five freshmen line the roster for the Minot girls track team and its new head coach Disa Salander.

Salander's been with Minot for 14 years now, serving as the team's throwing coach, but now, she's the main boss. Minot will miss all-state sprinter Morgan Milbrath, who graduated, but the youth is why the Majettes are excited for this season.

"What I like is that they stay upbeat, are positive, and keep going. They never stop and it's nice to have that refreshing energy and that they don't give up and they just keep on going," sprinter Kelly Wu says.

"Overall, as a team, we placed 9th last year and obviously we'd like to improve on that and I think, as a team, we're strong in all the places we need to be strong in. We're strong in the throws, strong the sprints, distance, and our jumps are good, too. We're a very well-rounded team," thrower Else Nelson says.

Coach Salander won't offer any prognostications on the upcoming year.

"It is too early to say. I'm not going to predict anything, but, we're going to develop and get girls stronger, quicker, and hopefully by the end of the year get them to peak at the right time so we can place high up in the WDA and then, hopefully, get a top six spot in the state track meet," she says.

The Majettes host the Minot Invite this weekend from Duane Carlson.
