This past weekend the Marauders picked up a conference sweep on the tennis court, improving to 7-1 in NSIC play and senior Hallie Welk was named this week's conference player of the week. I caught up with Welk and the tennis team to learn a thing or two about the game.
"Alright I'm here with senior Hallie Welk. Now, Hallie I'm not much of a tennis pro, you are going to have to give me a few lessons. What are some of the basics I need to know to hit the ball over the net?" says KFYR's Alec Ausmus.
"First of all you start with your racket on the ground, and then pick it up, that would be your grip. Whatever is comfortable. If you are hitting a forehand, you turn to the side. Then start down low and pretend your contact point is out infront of you then follow through over the shoulder," says Welk.
"Let me get a ball and try. Let me start from the beginning. Pick it up. Over the shoulder, over the shoulder. How are the feet? Are they good?" says Ausmus. As they may or may not know, I'm nothing of a tennis pro. They are about to find out my skill set. Let's give it a go.
We didn't learn the back hand!
