New Troopers Begin Patrolling Bakken

Posted: Updated:

The 63rd Legislative Assembly announced two-weeks-ago that 15 new troopers were going to be placed on state's roadways with most of them going to the western part of the state.

Four new troopers have started patrolling in New Town, Dickinson, Parshall and Minot already. Next week, two more will be starting in Williston. A sergeant of the North Dakota Highway Patrol Adam Dvorak says the academy started in January, and is a six to seven month training session. They go through initial training, and then highway patrol training where they're actually in a car for eight-weeks.

"I think it just shows that our huge influx in traffic is really shown a need for more troopers in this area to help out. To help keep our infrastructure secure, protect our roads and get the service to the people up in the area where it's needed the most," says Highway Patrol Sergeant Adam Dvorak.

Dvorak says 10 more will be done with the Highway Patrol Academy by July 25, and most of them will be coming to the western part of the state.
