Don't Buy It Until We Try It: Hurricane Spin Mop

Posted: Updated:

Mopping is never a fun or an easy task, especially when cleaning around corners and toilets.  And, over time, mops and sponges become dirty. Well, there may be a mop that spins away all the dirt.

From students to faculty and staff, there's heavy traffic up and down the hallways at Velva Public Schools, which means there's usually a lot of moping to do for school custodians, like Nancy Martin.

"It comes down to breaking down the fiber, and they do start to lose strands that are hanging and just natural wearing. And, some of the floors, like the bathroom, are rough. So, they do take a little more wear on the mop," says Martin.

The Hurricane Spin Mop sells for around $40 and promises to spin away all of the dirt.

"It looks very light weight," says Martin.

But, before we could start mopping, there was a little assembly required.  Just connect the top, middle and bottom handles together.

"They're usually more of a cotton weave and have denseness to them," says Martin.

We filled the bucket with soap and water just to the fill line to prevent any spilling.

So, you're probably wondering why it's called the Hurricane Mop. Well, when you push down on the foot pedal, the mop actually spins 360 degrees.

Just dip the mop head in the water to dampen. And, to drain the excess water, you can wring the mop by pressing the foot petal.

"It feels quite good," says Martin.

You'll notice the bathroom floor looks shiny and there are not puddles of standing water anywhere.

So, did the Hurricane Spin Mop take us by storm?

"I like the lightness, but as far as a heavy duty job as a school, I don't believe that it would be appropriate or sturdy to handle all of the rigorous work that we do have to do," says Martin.

As many of you know, I am a huge neat freak. So, I usually enjoy cleaning.  But, if there is anything I don't like to do, it's moping. I loved using the Hurricane Spin Mop. It was easy to use and the foot pedal was handy. The main selling feature is you don't have to bend down to ring out your mop. Not to mention, you don't end up with puddles on the floor. Overall, this is a great product to help you with your housework.

So, this week's Don't Buy It, Until We Try It earns a thumbs up.
