Zoo Releases Bald Eagle

Posted: Updated:
Another symbol of our country was successfully released back into the wild.

A eagle was rescued in November and given to the Dakota Zoo.

The eagle had a bad foot and even had to have one of its talons amputated. The zoo, along with Lewis and Clark Animal Hospital, do their best to keep the birds as wild as possible.

"We feel it's our mission to help out where we can. We will see maybe 60 birds a year similar to this one. If we can help or strengthen them back up, whatever it takes, we'll do it and give it a shot at life back in the wild," says Dakota Zoo director Terry Lincoln.

The zoo is one of the few places in the state that rehabilitates birds.
