State Receives Grant For Public Housing

Posted: Updated:

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has awarded nearly $2 million to the state. The money will be used to improve and preserve public housing across the state.

The Burleigh County Housing Authority received about $339,000 which will help with projects on 61 single family dwellings.

"It's dollars that are set aside to do capitol improvement projects. Window replacement, flooring, roofing, that type of thing. Our units are 40, 50, 60 years old throughout the state, so it's time to do some of those types of things," says Dwight Barden of B.C. Housing.

The money is provided through HUD's Capitol Fund Program. Barden says the money is usually received annually, but recent federal cuts have caused the amount of funding to go down.
