Crews Find Missing Teen

Posted: Updated:

Searchers found a missing 15-year-old girl who had been missing since Saturday from the small town of Abercrombie.

Abby Alt spent the night outside before crews found her Sunday afternoon. Alt was supposed to be walking to a friends house but never showed. Volunteers and fire and rescue teams went looking for her shortly after.

After 18-hours, they found in a ditch alongside a township road a mile north of the Abercrombie.

"We're going to have to follow up with talking to all of the people that were involved, anyone that may have had any contact with her prior to this occurring. See if there's anyone that she may have contacted after that fact," says Richland County Sheriff Larry Leshovsky.

Authorities say they want to know why the girl decided to stray so far off the path and why she wasn't able to make it home. The sheriff says he doesn't suspect foul play.

Alt is being treated at a Fargo hospital.
