United Blood Service Announces Urgent Need For Blood Donors

United Blood Services is reportingshortages of certain blood types across the state, and they need yourhelp.

In past few weeks,patient demand in North Dakotahas surpassed donations by 400 pints of blood.

Now, blood centersare reaching a level of potential need for blood, so United Blood Services hasissued an urgent need for type O donors.

To donate blood,volunteers must be at least 16-years-old and be in good health.

For every one donation, three livescan be saved.

"There's only 6 percent of thepopulation who has O negative, so if there are more traumas or if there isanything like that that's the type they'll grab right away.  So, it getsused very regularly, " says Jennifer Charbonneaux the manager of Minot United BloodServices Center.

United Blood Services of the Dakotas collects more than 125,000 blood productseach year to help save lives of patients in 93 area hospitals. Toschedule an appointment donors can call 1-800-917-4929 or visit www.UnitedBloodServices.org.
