Curling Boot Camp

Posted: Updated:

The Olympic Games may be over, and there may be signs of spring outside, but one winter sport was on the minds of many in the Magic City today.

The Minot Curling Club held a Curling boot camp for some of it's more experienced members Saturday afternoon. Certified instructors including a member of the USA Curling Hall of Fame made the trip to Minot to get back to the basics with local curlers. The group focused on balance, release, and strategy using hands-on techniques and video replay.  Instructors say it doesn't matter how long you've been participating in a certain sport, practice makes perfect.

"Were you part of a formal program, or was it just members of your team teaching you how to curl? They may or may not have been giving you good instruction," says U.S. Curling National Course Instructor, Jon Mielke. We really go back to the basics, assume that you may not know anything, and then take it from there to help them develop a higher level of skill. Maybe learn a few things they were doing wrong, or maybe they did them right and forgot."

The Minot Curling Club will host the GrainBelt Premium Bonspiel March 28th through the 30th.  For more information call  701-838-3452.
