Minot Advances to 1st State Title Game Since 2001

Posted: Updated:

Forget 2001. Let's go back even further to 1978. That's the only time the Minot girls have ever won the state championship. The Majettes beat Bismarck Thursday at the MSU Dome 57-52 and will play Fargo Shanley Saturday night at 6:00 pm in the state championship game.

Minot held a 9 point lead at the half, but the Demons came back to cut it to a 1 point lead with a little over a minute left. The Majettes hit some big free throws down the stretch and pulled the victory out.

"We've got a bunch of girls that believe right now in themselves and I don't know about the missing parts. I mean if anything's missing, part of my heart's missing from my heart attack earlier but everything's together right now. I'm so proud of these girls. I told the girls in the locker room to just come out and enjoy the moment tomorrow night. Come out and be ready to play but enjoy it and take it all tomorrow and we'll have a little fun tomorrow night," head coach Todd Magnuson says.

"It's so exciting. No one ever thought we'd make it here. We just believed in ourselves and we're so excited," sophomore Cassie Askvig says.

This will be the sixth state championship Minot will play in. The Majettes are 1-4 in previous title games.
