Spring Allergies Are In The Air

Posted: Updated:
Allergists say once dead leaves and tree branches are exposed, mold and pollen particles are released into the air causing nose inflammation.

"Inflammation is caused by an immune reaction," says allergy specialist for St. Alexius Dr. Arkapol Piyamahunt. "It means that your body, by some reason, is making more against certain things like pollen, trees, grass, weed or mold."

Because we've been cooped up inside all winter and we're starving for fresh air, it may seem like a no-brainer for us to open every window in the house or car on that first warm day of spring. But beware doing so could cause more harm than good.

"If you are allergic to outdoor then close your windows and use the heating or air conditioning," says Piyamahunt. "The air conditioning system has a filter to trap outdoor mold and pollen from outside."

And if you just can't avoid allergies, don't worry. There are medications available that can help put the spring back into your step this allergy season.
