State Addresses Railway Transport Concerns

Posted: Updated:

The train derailment near Casselton in January forced the state to look into the safety of transporting crude oil and other exports. Yesterday, Senator John Hoeven met with the new BNSF CEO Carl Ice to follow up with safety and other concerns the delegation has with railway transport.  They also discussed a 19-day backlog with transporting other products such as grain and American Crystal.

"We're really pressing them. They'll be catching up over the course of this month and next, but won't be fully caught up until June. So again, we're pushing them to bring more resources to get caught up for our ag shippers," says Hoeven.

Hoeven added that last month BNSF agreed to invest $5 billion in rail infrastructure, including $400 million in North Dakota.
