Kirk Capdeville Headed to National Championships

Posted: Updated:

Two years in to their stay in Division 2, the Minot State track team looks like they belong. Growing pains are inevitable, but the Beavers made huge strides this season.

It all culminated in an improved showing for MSU at the Northern Sun Indoor Championships this season. Both the Minot State men's and women's teams finished 10th. Last year the women finished 13th and the men finished 11th. Looking at the meet, Coach Melby thought the Beavers met expectations, and then some.

"Either way, it was great. Twenty-seven personal bests, five season bests, four school records," Melby says.

Pole vaulter Kirk Capdeville is going to the national championships this weekend in Winston-Salem, a year after losing out on a tiebreaker that would have sent him.

"I guess I was pretty excited at the time. To come so close last year, I fixed a few little things, I guess, and kind of pulled it together and made it in this year," says Capdeville

The NCAA meet will start Friday. Capdeville is ranked 14 out of 16 nationally qualified vaulters.
