Trinity Students Adjust To New Schools

Posted: Updated:

It's been a long week for Trinity High School students and staff. But students are now back in school and trying to get back to learning.

Administrators with Dickinson Catholic and public schools say today went pretty smoothly.
I had a chance to check out how the seventh and eighth graders are doing at Prairie Rose Elementary and it seems like they're enjoying their new surroundings.

It's not home, but Prairie Rose Elementary students did their best to help their new Trinity classmates.

"The students and staff have been really welcoming. It's been hard, but we're Titans and we're going to stay strong," says Trinity seventh-grader Alexa Cofer.

And the Trinity junior high students say they're adjusting well to their new school.

"We've had a great day so far. We're trying to reestablish our routine and to keep in mind that we've lost a building but haven't lost our identity," says Trinity religion teacher Carther Fong.

It wasn't all smooth sailing, though. Administrators say scheduling for the juniors and seniors at Saint Joseph's Church has been a little difficult.

"We're still working out some bugs there. But here at Prairie Rose, I walked into a couple classes and if you did not know, you would have no idea that these students and teachers were here this morning for the first time," says Dickinson Catholic Schools president Steve Glasser.

Prairie Rose students were a little upset about one thing with their Trinity guests though that the seventh-and eighth-graders couldn't go out to recess with them.

"That was kind of disappointing to them, but other than that, they were really excited," says Prairie Rose Elementary principal Sherry Libis."They spent Thursday making posters for their lockers, banners for the school to welcome them. We're just happy that we're able to help.

Dickinson Catholic School administrators say they're expecting more bumps in the road, but they're hoping there will be some normalcy for students by Wednesday.

Some students were able to return to Trinity after school but only to pick up items that staff saved from their lockers.
