Gate City Warning Customers of Scam

Posted: Updated:

Gate City Bank is warning customers of a phone scam targeting random banking customers.

The scam started about a week ago in the Fargo and Bismarck areas and is now in the Minot area. Peggy Johnson, the Vice President of Gate City Bank, says an automated voice call plugs in the area code 701, and then the first three digits of a phone number. This lets the call connect to thousands of numbers. The robotic voice then tells a person their card has been compromised and locked, and asks you to enter your credit card number in order to get it unlocked. If you enter your credit card number, that's when the fraud occurs.

Gate City Bank is encouraging anyone who receives this call to immediately hang up and not to give out their credit card information.
