Water District Customers Battle Frozen Pipes

Posted: Updated:

Phoneshave been ringing off the hook at North Prairie Rural Water District forreports of frozen pipes.

The subzerowinter weather and the little snow covering them is causing the water temperature to getclose to 32 degrees, so a Winter Operations Alert was issuedlate last week for both North Prairie and North Central Water Districtcustomers.

In just a few days, they received 22reports of frozen pipes in the area.

"Most of the time what'shappening is that it usually is freezing from the home out of their serviceline back to what we call the curb stop and North Prairie is responsible to thecurb stop," says North Central Water Consortium manager Teresa Sundsbak.

Homes that use little to no waterare more likely to have issues with their pipes. To prevent lines fromfreezing, you are asked to keep your water running at all times. The NorthPrairie Rural Water District staff has been working around the clock to restorewater to its customers.
