An Unusual Face-Off

Posted: Updated:

After 25 years of being apart, reunited high school sweethearts tied the knot tonight, and where it happened required some bundling up.

For Newlyweds Michael Yantzer and Sonja Tkacahit was important to say "I do", where it all started.

"We started our high school relationship here, so it's sentimental," said Sonja.

Michael played hockey and Sonja was a cheerleader for the Mandan Braves when they met, and after losing touch for more than two decades they're back at center ice.

"As the opportunity came there were still struggles, we lived in different states, we had a family to blend so it wasn't easy, we wanted to be together and did what we needed to do to make it happen," said Sonja.

The couple says they spent about five or six months planning the wedding and working with the unusual venue, wasn't easy.  There were liability factors involved with using the ice rinks with Parks and Rec , but they say it turned out perfectly.

The groomsmen wore jerseys and the bridesmaids bouquets were made of pompoms all to complete the couples frosty fantasy wedding.

The couple also had today's Mandan High Hockey team and Cheerleaders serve as ushers at the ceremony.
