City Looks To Future Building

Posted: Updated:

We are almost in the third month of 2014, but there are already talks about what 2015 will bring in the city of Williston.

The city is focusing on the new building plans for next year.

"A lot of projects on the line for the city themselves," says Brad Bekkedahl of the Finance Commission."Some of them are actually carry over projects where we're talking about construction year 2014. We have programmed and planned on a two year schedule because the funding from the state works on a buy in basis."

Bekkedahl says there are many projects that are in the works. One of those is the relocation of the airport. The new airport will be bigger, and have more airlines so there will be more flights available.

"One of them we are excited to see get down is the 32nd Ave. is the connection from Harvest Hills on 26th St. all the way down to the new Sand Creek Town Center. Then there will access to Highway 2," says Bekkedahl.

There is a roundabout that connects 32nd Ave. and 26th St. Eventually there will be an overpass that will connect 32nd and Highway 2 so drivers can avoid traffic.

"This year is going to be a very big year for single family homes. We've what we call entitled," says Tom Rolfstad. "Got through planning and zoning and site designs done for a lot of subdivisions and there are a number of them that already have the water, sewer and streets in them."

The director for Economic Development Tom Rolfstad says the housing industry could start becoming more affordable and a lot of applicants for houses have received good credit scores so they can get financed.

"All the cities in northwestern North Dakota got legislative funding for the Waze Water System," says Rolfstad. "It's a $330 million water system that connects all of our towns coming out of the cities' water intake on the Missouri here."

Rolfstad says the water will not only be for the cities, but for the oil companies to use for fracking.

Rolfstad added they are preparing for three years in advance because of the constant growth of the city.
