Don't Buy It Until We Try It: Smartbag

Posted: Updated:

From sweaters and hoodies to bedding and pillows, it's hard to keep closets and drawers organized. Well, there may be an airtight space saving solution for all those enclosed spaces.

It doesn't matter how big or how small your closet is, there never seems to be enough room for all your stuff. So, many of us attempt to organize our things, but it doesn't stay tidy for long.

"A lot of times most people just don't have enough space. So, anytime we can find a customer or client extra space, it's always a bonus," says manager Karla Herigstad of Organized Spaces.

The SmartBag sells for under $15, and promises to be the airtight space saving product.

"I think it could work well.  We'll see," says Herigstad.

The SmartBag comes in a variety of sizes. We used the extra-large for bigger bulkier items, which will hopefully create up to three times more space in our closet.

"It does feel like a little bit of a heavier duty plastic," says Herigstad. "It seems like it would be easy to open."

And, it didn't take long for us to fill up one extra-large SmartBag with a comforter.  Just slide the easy grip slider to fasten securely.

Once the SmartBag was filled, it was time to fire up the vacuum to seal it shut.

Within just a few minutes, the SmartBag was ready to put in the closet, as least we thought so.

But, the SmartBag was not completely vacuumed shut. Luckily, it was a simple fix.  All we needed to do was seal up the zipper part more securely.

We once again repeated the same steps, only this time we put bulkier things, like towels and sweatshirts, in the SmartBag. We sealed it up and both bags were finally ready to put on the shelf.

"I'm thinking that would be a huge help," says Herigstad. "You're going to conserve space."

And, after you're done storing the items, removal is just as easy. The SmartBag opens like a sandwich bag.

"There we go. Well, look at that just grow," says Herigstad.

So does the SmartBag earn our seal of approval?

"It seems just as fine as it went in. It looks great," says Herigstad.

Now, this product really surprised me because I didn't know what to expect with the vacuum concept. But, none of the items got wrinkled up. If we would have taken a little more time to flatten everything out, the comforter may have come out completely flat.

So, this week's "Don't Buy It, Until We Try It," earns a thumbs up.
