Service Offers Preventing Child Abuse Seminars

Posted: Updated:

Faith-based leaders from around Bismarck are learning how to identify and prevent child abuse.

Preventing Child Abuse North Dakota hosted the first of a two-part seminar called Faith-Based Response to Child Abuse and Neglect.

Leaders heard from abuse victims, and found out how they should respond when they learn of abuse.

Organizers say they wanted to talk to faith leaders because victims usually trust them as an outlet.

"Ministers, clergy, are some of the first people that come in contact with individuals who may have past experiences, that have been harmful and hurtful, as well as families who may be going through these experiences," says Tim Hathaway of Prevent Child Abuse North Dakota.

Hathaway says anyone who suspects child abuse should go to their county law enforcement and social services immediately. Organizers will hold the second seminar at the end of March.
