Postal Workers in Oil Patch Getting a Raise

Posted: Updated:

Postal workers in western North Dakota will be getting a raise.

The U.S. Postal Service has reached an agreement with the Rural Letter Carriers Association to increase pay and grant bonuses to recruit and retain rural carriers in the Bakken. It includes the cities of Minot, Dickinson, Williston, Watford City and most of the communities in western North Dakota.

All newly hired and part-time rural carriers will receive a nine percent raise, and all Rural Carrier Associates will get a 20 percent raise. The increases will result in starting wages in the range of $21 to $22 an hour.

"This will enable them to hire more workers both rural mail carriers but also people working in the post office to get better service. We need to have them hire more people and retain them," says Sen. Hoeven.

The increases will take effect May 17.
