State has Growing Need for Service Technicians

Studies are showing that more North Dakota companies are competing for employees with specific skill sets. The auto, diesel, and oil industries are finding it harder to hire qualified service technicians.

The North Dakota Implement and Automobile Dealers Association say more service technicians are being drawn towards the high-paying jobs in the oil industry.

The association says the auto and diesel industry can't really compete with oil through salary. But they offer jobs all over so employees don't have to move to the job and there are more chances for a promotion.

"For people that kinda like to solve problems and play with computers or work with today's technology, we've got some great opportunities for them," says chairmen of the ND Implement Dealers Association Keith Kreps.

"They're very advanced in the use of technology, as well as, getting in there and being able to do the mechanics of it. So, it's such a well round-and it's really such a professional position," says the career development manager Jenna Harpole for the ND Implement Dealers Association.

"As a technician, I really enjoyed working with the customers and that's something that I can do on the advisor side too. Plus, being able to teach the young guys how to work on this stuff," says the RDO service technician advisor Thomas Wayne Goettle.  

"Farming is a constant growing business, and the market has been really good. It's just a really good economy right now, for farming, you know," says Goettle.

For those interested in learning about service technicians and available opportunities, the North Dakota Implement and Automobile Dealers Association is hosting a job fair Mach 25.
